District #3 Annual Meeting 2010

District 3 Annual Meeting was held at Bassano on Nov.6th. REC Les Payne welcomed MEC Dave Boone and 12 accompanying Grand Chapter Officers: all 3 Grand First Principals were in attendance as was the GDS#2, David Allan. REC Arnold Smith GSS of the Grand Chapter of Sask, also accompanied our Grand Z. About 40 were in attendance, and all Chapters of District 3 were represented with at least the First and 1 other Principal from each, and Harmony 26 with all 3.  REC Duncan Strachan (Grand Tyler) of Otuskwan was elected as GDS for the next year  A great roast beef lunch was put on by REC Ed Mauer of Harmony, assisted by EC Jim Stroud of Eheyeh; Ed commented he had to recruit professional help from afar because we keep holding the Annual Dist. Meeting in the middle of deer season and his good cooks are otherwise engaged.  Ed donated the profit to the Youth Endowment Fund and presented a cheque to MEC Boone at the meeting.  The Grand Lecturer, MEC Gillies, gave a presentation on the history of Chapters in Dist. 3; there were at one time 6 Districts, and that we have lost many Chapters over the years.  MEC Boone reported in his closing remarks that the work in forming a new Chapter is almost complete, with much assistance from REC Dave Switzer.  It will probably meet in Didsbury and be named as such; and likely this new Chapter will be assigned to Dist. 3.  Of note, there was a Chapter in Didsbury many years ago and it was in Dist. 3.  Date and location of the next Annual District Meeting to be announced.
