Greeting Companions,

The month of March has come and gone and spring seems to be in the air.

The following activities took place in March.

  • March 3, attended Golden West Chapter # 5 where 4 brethren were advanced as Mark Master Masons.

  •  March 9, attended Shekinah Chapter # 4 where 1 brother was received as a Mark Master Mason.

  •  March 21, attended Crescent Chapter # 24 where 3 brethren were received as Mark Master Masons.

  •  March 22, attended Otuskwan Chapter # 9 1 brother was received as a Mark Master Mason.

  •  March 26, attended the memorial service for Most Excellent Companion David Neill in Edmonton who passed away March 16. Most Excellent Companion Neill will be dearly missed by all the companions.

  •  March 31, attended the Grand Sessions for Job's Daughters in Canmore and brought greetings on behalf of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Alberta.

For the month of April, I plan to visit the following chapters.
  • April 18, Crescent Chapter # 24. I have been asked by the First Principal of Crescent Chapter to present a paper regarding the ancient landmarks and ritual work pertaining to Royal Arch Masonry.

  • April 19, Calgary Chapter # 11.

  • April 22 and 23, attend the annual convocation of the  Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Manitoba in Winnipeg.

  • April 26, attend Otuskwan Chapter # 9.

  • April 30, attend the Masonic Spring Workshop in Kananaskis.

  • Ex. Comp. Caldwell and Ex. Comp. Roth, both members of North Star Chapter # 2 will be conducting workshops on this weekend.

Companions, the number of new members joining the Royal Arch Chapters is certainly encouraging. May we continue to grow in the manner we have seen this past year. Grand Convocation in Camrose is quickly approaching on May 13 and 14. Once again, I would encourage to make the necessary registrations and reservations for that weekend.

 Fraternally yours,

M.E.C. Don Gillies
Grand First Principal

February has come to an end and with the mild winter we have experienced so far, it has allowed us to travel in relative safety and comfort.

  • February 6, attended Church Parade at Balzac United Church. There were approximately 30 Companions in attendance, accompanied by their wives. David and Vivian Boone of Otuskwan Chapter # 9 provided the soup kitchen at the community centre which was enjoyed by everyone in attendance including members of the congregation.

  • February 12, attended the Grand Executive Committee Meeting at Red Deer Masonic Temple. Reports for all the committees were presented. Arrangements for the Grand Convocation were reported and all is in order.

  • February 26, attended District # 3 Workshop at Strathmore Masonic Lodge. This workshop was under the direction of Rt. Ex. Comp. Don Murray. The workshop was well organized at each Chapter in District # 3 presented a paper. Approximately 30 companions were in attendance. Ample discussion insured after each presentation. Rt. Ex. Comp. Murray is to be commended on his efforts for this workshop.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the George Washington Convocation in Conrad, Montana on Feb. 18 and 19. Rt. Ex. Comp. David Hongisto was able to attend and brought greetings on behalf of the Grand Chapter of Alberta.

For the month of March, I plan to make fraternal visits to

  • Golden West Chapter # 5,

  • Shekinah Chapter # 4,

  • Crescent Chapter # 24

  • and Otuskwan Chapter # 9.

On March 31, I will be attending the Job's Daughters Grand Session in Canmore.

Companions, as our convocation in May rapidly approaches, I would encourage you to make your hotel reservations and submit your registration to Rt. Ex. Comp. Don Dygert as soon as possible. The registration form is available on this web site as well as with your Scribe "E".

Looking forward to seeing you in the near future.

Fraternally yours,

M.E.C. Don Gillies
Grand First Principal
